I

Frederick Jermaine Williams, known on the stage as Maine Ideal, was born and raised in Laurens, SC on August 6, 1981.

Even as a child, I've always felt the need to rap. It almost seems as a gift that I was born with not only because when I write music I put feeling in it, but also because I grew up in a music-filled environment. Both of my parents were singers. I can remember my mother playing blues music and I didn't understand it, but as I got older and started listening to the lyrics and feeling the beat, I began to understand the true meaning of the love of music. Sometimes when I'm writing a song, especially a sad song, if the beat don't catch my heart or bring tears to my eyes, then it's not a hit. That's just the beat alone, not including lyrics. When writing a song, before actually writing the words to it, you have to feel it. If you don't feel it and continue to write it, it throws everything else off.

I don't feel the need to do a performance for money. I perform for the love. I did my first performance while I was in high school. I performed Joyful, Joyful. It was then that I realized that rapping was what I wanted to do. While I was performing I felt unbound. It was like I had no worries, restraints, or fetters.

I wake up hearing tunes in my head. Music is where my heart is. I live, sleep, and breathe for music. My musical influences come from the heart, issues of the world, and from personal experience. The rappers that influence me are: Bone Thugs n Harmony, Jay-Z, Nas, Tupac, Lil Wayne, and Papoose.

I would describe my rapping style as laid back. Because I rap from the heart, I feel like my music can have an impact on many, both young and old.
